Isle of Man
The Isle of Man lies in the Irish Sea off the north-west coast of England. During history the island's location has meant it has been home to Irish, Scottish, English and even Norse settlers. It is now self-governing with its own legislature and capital at Douglas.

The Celtic language of Manx was spoken on the island and, like Scottish Gaelic, had developed out of Irish Gaelic. The language became extinct towards the end of the 20th century.
